Use the following information if you're having trouble with the setup and playability of your CY-13R.
First check the cable connections on the CY-13R:
- The cable labeled "RD" should be securely connected to the BOW/EDGE output on the CY-13R.
- The cable labeled "RDB" should be connected to the BELL output.
Next, check and confirm that the Pad Type for the ride input is set to "CY-13R" in the TD-17's Pad Settings menu. Here's how:
- Press the SETUP button.
- Cursor to highlight "Pad Settings," and then press ENTER.
- Press the function 1 button (F1) to select the "TYPE" tab.
- Hit the CY-13R to select it.
- Turn the main dial to choose "CY-13R."
- Press EXIT when you're finished.
The positioning of the CY-13R on the stand is important. Make sure the Roland stamped logo on the top of the pad is on the opposite side (from the player's view) and legible from left to right. If positioned differently, trigger results may be inefficient.
When striking the Bell portion on the CY-13R, be sure to use the neck/shoulder of the stick and strike it with a good amount of force. Tapping lighter with the tip of the stick may not produce a trigger result.
While in the TD-17's ASSIGN menu (press the ASSIGN button), view the upper right corner of the display while hitting the three different zones on the CY-13R. When the pad is hit correctly, each zone is represented in the upper right side of the display as:
BELL [RD]
HEAD [RD]
RIM [RD]
If desired, you can go into the TD-17's Pad Settings menu and increase the Rim Gain value which will increase the volume level for the bell. Here's how:
- Press SETUP.
- Cursor to highlight "Pad Settings," and then press ENTER.
- Press F3[ADVNCD].
- Press F2[RIM].
- Cursor to highlight "Rim Gain."
- Hit the CY-13R to select it.
- Turn the main dial clockwise to increase the value as desired.
- Press EXIT when you're finished. The new setting is saved automatically.
