The WL-20 / WL-20L transmitter (WL-T) is compatible with most standard guitars, including Stratocaster-type, Telecaster-type, Les Paul-type, SG-type, and electro-acoustic guitars.
Guitars with non-standard output wiring may not produce sound or may not physically accept the transmitter. See below for known issues and solutions.
Compatibility Issues
| Guitar Type | Symptom | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Some active pickup guitars | No sound, or a "click, click, click" noise mixed into the guitar signal | Ring and Sleeve wiring is reversed on some guitars | A or B |
| Some guitars (physical fit) | WL-T cannot be inserted into the guitar | The jack recess lacks the cylindrical space required (18.5 mm diameter, 5 mm depth) | B |
| YAMAHA Silent Guitar | No sound, or guitar does not power on | Special electrical wiring; not directly compatible | A or B |
| Stereo output (TRS) instruments | Only the L channel (Tip side) is heard | WL-T is mono; only the Tip signal is transmitted | No workaround (by design) |
Solution A — Adapter Plug
Connect an adapter plug (Mono Phone Male – Mono Phone Female) to the WL-T, then insert the assembly into the guitar.
Solution B — Patch Cable + Adapter
Connect an adapter (Mono Phone Female – Mono Phone Female) to the WL-T, then connect a mono patch cable (Phone – Phone) between the adapter and the guitar.
If Solution A or B Does Not Resolve the Issue
For active pickup guitars and YAMAHA Silent Guitars, try the following additional steps:
- Remove the guitar's battery or disconnect its power adapter.
- Attach the appropriate adapter to the WL-T and reconnect to the guitar.
