TD-27: When hitting the pads, there is trigger activity in the TD-27's display, but no sound is heard

If there is trigger activity shown in the TD-27's display when playing on the pads, but you're not hearing any sound, check the following;

Connect headphones to the PHONES output on the back panel of the TD-27, and then turn up the PHONES volume knob.

Check the Local Control parameter in the TD-27 and make sure it is set to "ON."  Here's how: 

1. Press the SYSTEM button.
2. Cursor to highlight "MIDI," and then press ENTER.
3. Cursor to "Local Control." 
4. Turn the main dial clockwise to choose "ON."
   - If this is “OFF,” the performance data from the pads is not connected to the TD-27’s sound generator section.
5. Press the DRUM KIT button when you're finished.
   - The new setting is saved automatically.
