When PS-6 MODE knob is set to either MAJOR or MINOR and the scale is set specifically to a KEY, the PS-6 will add harmonies based on the diatonic scale KEY MAJOR or MINOR. This means that some scale degrees will cause tritones or some customers say a dissonant tone. This is because not all scale degrees and intervals are equal in a diatonic key major or minor.
For Example, The fifth above the F (second scale degree in Eb minor) would be a Cb/B natural or a tritone harmony. (The Digitech whammy is recreating a perfect fifth above the inputted note which, in the example of Eb minor a perfect fifth above F would be a C).
If you wish to create a Perfect 5th tone away from the note you are playing (similar to Digitech whammy), simply switch MODE knob to PITCH SHIFTER.
This will deactivate smart harmonizer and only provide the interval based around SHIFT control.
Below is a diagram of the intervals and pitch shifting that can be achieved in both PITCH SHIFTER mode and HARMONY mode.
