ZENOLOGY GX for iPad: Quickstart

SYNTH Tab

This is the heart of your sound. It provides granular control over the core building blocks of synthesis including oscillators, filters, and envelopes. Each preset in ZENOLOGY GX is comprised of 4 customizable synth engines (called Partials)

Each Partial Contains a customizable oscillator, filter section, Mix amp section, each with their own dedicated envelopes. Each partial also has two fully customizable dedicated LFO's.

GLOBAL Section

Global Keyboard

The Mono switch specifies whether the tone will play monophonically (ON) or polyphonically (OFF).

The Legato switch works when LEGATO is turned ON in tandem with the MONO switch.

It makes the pitch change smoothly during legato performance (playing the next key before releasing the previous key).

You can also globally transpose the synth in both semi-tones and Octaves as well as adjust the Pitch Bend range.

Unison

The Unison switch layers multiple instances of a sound. If unison is ON, the number of notes specified by each tone are layered together.

You can change the Size and Detune parameter to exaggerate the effect

Portamento

Portamento switch specifies whether the portamento effect is applied (ON) or not applied (OFF).

You can also customize the type and overall time the effect takes.

Global Macros

Analog Feel knob applies time-varying change to the pitch and volume of the tone that is producing sound, adding a sense of variability.

Cutoff knob adjusts how far the filter is open. Higher values make the sound brighter, and lower values make the sound darker.

Reso knob boosts the components of the sound that are near the cutoff frequency, adding a distinctive character to the sound.

Raising this value excessively might cause oscillation, making the sound distorted.

Higher values produce a stronger character, and lower values produce a weaker character.

Attack knob specifies the time from when the key is pressed until the sound completes its attack. Higher values produce a softer attack, and lower values produce a sharper attack.

Release knob specifies the time from when the key is released until the sound disappears. Higher values produce a longer release, and lower values produce a crisper release.

Vibrato knob adjusts the depth of the vibrato effect (the depth of pitch modulation). Higher values produce greater pitch modulation, and lower values produce less modulation.

Level Knob adjust the overall volume of the synthesizer.

MIXER Tab

SEQ Tab

The SEQ tab is where you can choose between two SEQ Effect types.

Arpeggiator: Select Arpeggiator for quick and easy ARP patterns along with a wide array of customization controls. Use the Memory section to save and recall different configurations.

Chords:

Selected Chords to create anything from simple to complex chord triggers using the Chord Edit view. You can also program up to 8 patterns of chord sequences in the sequencer tab.

Preset Section

ZENOLOGY GX launches with a massive library of over 4,200 presets. Navigating this vast collection is streamlined through the central display area.

Tap the preset name in the center of the display to open the full-screen browser for a more comprehensive view.

Future-Proofing Your Studio: ZENOLOGY GX is designed to be your long-term synthesis partner. While it already contains thousands of sounds, support for nearly all additional ZENOLOGY banks are coming soon, ensuring your palette will continue to expand.

Onscreen Keys and Macros:

Use the onscreen keys for immediate playback without a MIDI controller.

You can set the keyboard range/size, and octave shift.

Macros:

ZENOLOGY GX features 16 customizable macro controls that you can assign to nearly any of the available synth parameters.

You can toggle between banks 1-8 and 9-16 in the edit section in the top right.

Assigning Macros

While the default macro map provided mirrors the Global Macros, you can create your own maps to any parameter in ZENOLOGY GX.

Tap the Edit button to expose the linking controls.

Linking Macros

Once Edit Mode is enabled, you can enable the Link button to engage link mode. From there, select a Macro Control then tap any ZENOLOGY GX parameter to link it to the Macro Control.

Linking MIDI CCs to a Macro Control

Tap the MIDI CC button to display MIDI Learn options for the selected Macro Control. This will give you hands on control of ZENOLOGY GX

Saving and Loading Macro Maps

Tap the Instrument Map button to create a New Map, Save and existing map or load a custom Macro Map from your library.

Main Menu

This is the administrative hub where you can manage the following:

• Settings & Account Info: Your user profile and global software preferences.

Content Exporting: Save and share your custom patches via SVZ files.
