MS-3: How to MIDI sync to RC-600 and use FS-6 to control tempo and Rhythm Start/Stop

Be sure to have the following equipment ready for this process below. 

-MS-3 https://www.boss.info/global/products/ms-3/ 

-RC-600 https://www.boss.info/global/products/rc-600/ 

-FS-6 https://www.boss.info/global/products/fs-6/ 

-TRS 1/4" male to male cable https://www.boss.info/global/products/bcc-3-tra/ 

-MIDI 5-pin male to male cable https://www.boss.info/global/products/bmidi-pb1/ 

Connect 5 pin MIDI cable from MS-3 MIDI OUT to the RC-600 MIDI IN. 

Connect TRS 1/4" male from FS-6 A&B output to the MS-3 CTL 1/2 IN. 

On FS-6, be sure that POLARITY switch is set to the left and MODE is set to FS-5U (MOMENTARY).
Be sure to use a 1/4" TRS cable out of A&B output of FS-6 to CTL 1, CTL2 INPUT on the MS-3. 

You can also achieve the same control and functionality using a BOSS FS-7 foot switch as well.

On the MS-3 - You will need to engage MIDI CLOCK ON function to send BPM data to RC-600. 
MENU > turn knob to highlight MIDI icon > press ENTER and then turn KNOB1 to turn CLK OUT to ON. 
Follow directions below for assigning CTL1 and CTL2 IN. 

1. Press the EDIT button, and turn KNOB1 to highlight CTL at the end of the menu. 
2. Press ENTER button, and turn any KNOB to highlight CTL IN 1. 
3. Press ENTER button, then turn KNOB1 to adjust, FUNC, to CTL OUT 1 
4. Turn KNOB2, to change MODE to MOMENTARY. 
5. Press EXIT button, and then turn any KNOB to highlight CTL IN 2. 
6. Press ENTER button, and then turn KNOB1 to change FUNC, to BPM TAP. 
7. Turn KNOB 2, to change MODE: to MOMENTARY. 

These are MEMORY/PATCH specific settings, and a WRITE/save function is needed in order to save these changes. 

Refer to page 13 of the Owner's Manual for instructions on WRITING a preset.

On RC-600 - Be sure that you have set MIDI settings on RC-600 to receive MIDI TIME SYNC tempo data from the RC-600 MIDI IN. 
MENU > PAGE arrow right to MIDI > press KNOB4 > PAGE ARROW RIGHT > button to display SYNC CLOCK > turn KNOB1 to change this setting to MIDI. 
Follow the directions below for assigning RHYTHM Start/Stop. 

1. Press MENU button and then press PAGE RIGHT ARROW > button, until CTL FUNC, is displayed on-screen.
2. Press KNOB1, and then press KNOB4 under CTL/EXP. 
3. Press KNOB1, under CTL 1. 
4. Turn KNOB1, to adjust this setting to RHYTHM START/STOP.
