When recording your KATANA MkII amp (relevant for: KATANA-50 MkII, KATANA-50 MkII EX, KATANA-100 MkII, KATANA-100/212 MkII, KATANA-HEAD MkII, KATANA-Artist MkII, KATANA-Artist MkII HEAD) as your chosen Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), depending on your operating system, you are presented with different audio input/output options.
*The KATANA MkII amp functions as a convenient, basic, USB DAW audio interface for your computer.
USB
-Primary (Windows)
-Input 1,2/Stereo Out(1,2) (Mac)
USB
-Secondary (Windows)
-Input/Output 3,4 (Mac)
Windows
Primary audio input records your 'wet' signal. Any effects, EQ and amp simulation you are processing through your KATANA MkII will be recorded when you play.
Secondary audio records the 'dry' signal. This is your direct or DI signal before it goes through the amplifier's pre-amp and effects processor.
Mac
Input 1,2/Stereo Out (1,2) is the amplifier's 'wet' signal.
Input/Output 3,4 is your amplifier's 'dry' signal.
Setting up two tracks in your DAW, one for each signal, allows for more versatility in processing your recorded sound. For more information, please refer to your KATANA MkII's user manual.
Generally, when recording, it's good practice to record, and capture your input instrument DI (Direct Input) "dry" signal, along with the "wet" signal on two separate tracks. This allows the user more flexibility of reusing a good recorded performance later, for re-amping the "dry" signal either with the KATANA MkII amp externally, or internally, within the DAW, using guitar amp/effect Plugins.
For reference, the Block Diagrams for the KATANA-50/100/HEAD/Artist/Artist HEAD MKII amp effect chain audio flow for the USB in/out points referred to above, can be visualized below.
Note: For proper functional connectivity as a DAW audio interface, please make sure the KATANA MkII amp firmware is updated to the latest version, the correct KATANA MkII USB device driver is installed for your specific computer OS (Operating System) and Version, and the latest version of BTS for KATANA MkII software editor is installed, connected, and synced for customizing your KATANA MkII amp Channels.
