The following article will guide you through troubleshooting steps in the event that your V-STUDIO 20 is not outputting any audio or the output volume is low.
Be sure that you have the following connections and settings first:

Connect speakers to the L-OUTPUT-R jacks of the V-STUDIO 20 or headphones to the PHONES jack of the V-STUDIO 20.

Turn up the volume on the speakers.
NOTE: Do not connect the speakers or headphones to your computer but connect them directly to the V-STUDIO 20's L-OUTPUT-R or headphone jacks. -
Adjust the DAW OUTPUT knob and the DIRECT MONITOR knob to the 12 o'clock position--straight up.

You can then use the OUTPUT knob to control overall level.
