KATANA GEN 3: System Program Version Update

Keep your KATANA GEN 3 up to date to ensure optimal performance and access to the latest features. Details about the changes are provided in the "UPDATE HISTORY" section on the System Program download page.

Checking the Version of the System Program

Before downloading the update file, check the system version of your KATANA GEN 3.

1. Turn off the power.
2. While holding down the [REVERB] button, turn on the [POWER] switch.
   The [BOOSTER], [MOD], [FX], [DELAY], and [REVERB] indicators will show the current system version.
   If the indicators light up as shown below, your unit is running the latest version (Ver.1.07):
   
   [BOOSTER] : Lit in green
   [MOD] : Unlit
   [FX] : Unlit
   [DELAY] : Lit in green
   [REVERB] : Lit in orange
   
   If the indicators light up differently from the image above, update the system program.
3. Turn off the power.

• KATANA GEN 3 unit
• USB cable (supports data transfer)
• Computer (Windows or Mac)

Update Procedure

Downloading and Unarchiving the Compressed File

1. Download the KATANA GEN 3 system program.
   https://www.boss.info/global/support/by_product/katana_artist_gen_3/updates_drivers/
   Note: This updater is compatible with all KATANA GEN 3 models. Do not use it with other KATANA series.
2. Read the software license agreement at the bottom of the download page and select the "I AGREE..." check box.
   
3. Click the "Download File" button to download the system program (katana3_sys_v107.zip).
   *107 = Version number
   
4. Extract the downloaded file.
   • Windows: Right-click the file, select “Extract All”, then click “Extract”.
   • macOS: Double-click the file to unzip it.
     
     A folder named "katana3_sys_v107" appears.
     *107 = Version number
     Note: Never double-click the files inside the folder after unarchiving, or rename them.

Updating the System Program

1. Make sure the power is turned off.
   Note: Do not connect the KATANA GEN 3 and the computer yet.
2. Adjust the [MASTER] knob to the minimum position.
   

3. While holding down the [TAP] button, turn on the [POWER] switch.

   

   

   The indicators for the [EFFECTS] buttons will start flashing.

4. Connect your computer to the KATANA GEN 3's USB port using a USB cable.
   The "KATANA3" drive appears on your computer.
   Note: Make sure to use a USB cable that supports data transfer.

5. Open the “KATANA3” drive.
   Depending on the environment, it may appear as “Removable Disk (*:)”.
6. Open the “katana3_sys_v107” folder, and copy (drag and drop) all the files inside it into the “KATANA3” drive.
   Note: Do not copy the folder itself.
   
7. Eject the KATANA3 drive from your computer:
   • Windows: See "Safely remove hardware in Windows" (Microsoft website).
   • macOS: Drag the “KATANA3” icon to the Trash in the Dock.
8. Disconnect the USB cable.
   The update will begin automatically.
   While the update is in progress, the [EFFECTS] indicators will light up.
   When the update is complete, the [EFFECTS] indicators will flash slowly and simultaneously.
9. Turn off the power.
   After completing the update, verify that the system program has been successfully updated by referring to “Checking the Version of the System Program".
   Note:  It is recommended to update BOSS TONE STUDIO (BTS) for KATANA Gen 3 to the latest version as well.
