ℹ️This article also applies to the HP701, RCP800, and MP200 (available only in certain regions).
The number of songs that can be recorded using the built-in recorder of the HP704 and HP702, as well as the maximum length per song, differs depending on the type of recording, as shown in the table below.
Recording type | Number of songs | How much you can record (approx.) |
| SMF recording (Standard MIDI File, Format 0) | Up to 100 songs | Approximately the equivalent of playing “Für Elise” about 30 times (500 KB) |
| Audio recording | Up to 200 songs, depending on the capacity of the USB flash drive used | Approximately 80 minutes (800 MB) |
Choose the recording method that best suits your purpose:
- Performance data recorded using SMF recording can be edited note by note in a DAW, or played back using other MIDI sound modules.
- When using audio recording, a USB flash drive (commercially available, 32 GB or less) must be connected, and the recorded song is saved to it. Audio recording captures the sound exactly as you hear it and records it as a WAV file. WAV files can be played back on a computer or audio player, used to create music CDs, or published on the Internet.
