S-Series Stage Units: How to Convert RS-232 to Cat5/6 for Computer Connection

The RS-232 port of an S-Series Stage Unit can connect to a computer via Cat5/6 using a converter (also known as a Serial to Ethernet Server).

For long distances, an active (powered) RS-232 to Cat5/6 converter is recommended for a stronger, more robust, signal. Passive adapters are less reliable for these large run applications.

Note: Be sure that the Cat5/6 converter being used is compatible with the computer's operating system. Check the documentation of the Cat5/6 converter for compatibility information.
