There are two separate ways to apply Audio Delay on the V-1200HD, via the Audio Mixer Channel menu, or the Audio Delay menu.
Depending on your workflow's sync issues, you may only need to adjust the Mixer channel delays.
- If you want to add audio delay to audio patched to Mixer channels, you can use the Audio Mixer Channel menu.
- If you want to add delay to audio routed through the V-1200HD without using the built-in Audio Mixer, first patch it through the Audio Delay bus.
How to Setup Audio Delay With the Mixer
Press <MIXER> to open the Audio Mixer Menu.
- Press the <LINK> button between channels 1 and 2.
- When channels 1 and 2 are linked, the delay value for channel 2 will be the same as channel 1.
- Press channel 1's red <VOLUME> knob, and use the hardware panel's [VALUE] knob to increase the audio level to 0.0dB.
- Press the red <VOLUME> knob under <MAIN>, and use the hardware panel's [VALUE] knob to increase the audio level to 0.0dB.
- Next, press the blue <1> button above the channel strip.
- In the Audio Mixer Channel Menu, press the <DISABLE> button in the Delay section.
- It will turn green and now say Enable.
- Press the <TIME> button and the box will turn red.
- Use the [VALUE] knob to adjust the delay in 0.1 ms increments.
- If you hold down the [ENTER] button while doing this, it will adjust the delay in 1.0 ms increments.
When finished, your screen should look like this:
With everything set, see if the audio meters under Main are moving in the Audio Mixer menu, and you hear audio through your monitoring system.

How to Setup Audio Delay Bypassing the Mixer
Press <PATCHBAY> to open the Patchbay Menu.
In the Patchbay Menu, and set the Patchbay Input to <HDMI/XLR> and Patchbay Output to <DELAY>, and map the patches like this:
This assigns XLR inputs 1 and 2 to Delay bus channels.
Next, set the Patchbay Input to <DELAY> and Patchbay Output to <HDMI/XLR>, and map the patches like this:
This assigns Delay bus channels 1 and 2 to multiple outputs, including HDMI 1 and 2, as well as the Multi-View outputs.
You can also change the Patchbay Output to SDI 1-4 and patch your external audio mix to those outputs.
Go back to the Audio Structure Menu, and press <DELAY>.
If you have difficulty reaching the [x] button in the top right corner of the Audio Patchbay menu, you can press the [EXIT] button on the V-1200HDR panel to go up one menu level, so long as that screen was the last one you touched.
The Audio Delay window will pop up, allowing you to add audio delay in milliseconds to audio patched through up to 16 delay channels.
Select the channel you want to adjust, and use the [VALUE] knob to adjust the delay in 0.1 ms increments. If you hold down the [ENTER] button while doing this, it will adjust the delay in 1.0 ms increments.
With everything set, test each source as your PGM selection, and see if the audio meters under Main are moving in the Audio Mixer menu, and you hear audio through your monitoring system.

Verifying the Delay Amount
1. With your workflow configured, make a test recording of a hand clap or production slate in front of the cameras and microphones.
2. Open the recording in video editing software, un-link the audio tracks and video track, and adjust the audio track until it is in sync with the video.
3. Measure the sync offset, and apply that setting to the associated V-1200HD delay channels.
Please Note: If the sync offset is only measured in frames in your video editing software, you will need to convert to milliseconds.
If working with 1080P, there are 59.94 frames per second. 1080i signals are actually 29.97 frames per second (59.94 interlaced fields).
To calculate the offset, divide 1000 (milliseconds) by the number of frames (either 29.97 or 59.94), and multiple by the frame offset. This will give you the offset, in milliseconds, for a 4 frame delay.
Example 1: 1000 / 59.94 = 16.68 x 4 = 66.7 ms
Example 2: 1000 / 29.97 = 33.37 x 4 = 133.5 ms
4. Make another test recording to confirm the changes synchronize the audio and video.
