Auto ROI is a powerful feature on the V-600UHD that lets compatible Canon cameras control your ROI shots with face detection data. You can have it track up to nine people in your wide shot, depending on the zoom mode selected.

Getting Started
To begin, make sure your camera is up to date, and the LAN port is enabled. Please refer to your camera's manual for more information.
Note that this feature only works with HDMI.
You need to set the camera's IP address so it will be in the same range as the V-600UHD.
If using a single camera, you can directly connect the camera to the V-600UHD with a network cable. If you have multiple Auto ROI cameras, supported PTZ cameras from other brands, or want to use the WebRCS control panel with a web browser, connect all your devices together with a network switch.
You can also use a network router with DHCP, but this guide will not cover that, we will discuss setup using static IP addresses.
First, set the V-600UHD's IP address so that it is in the same range as your camera.
For example:
- Set the V-600UHD to 192.168.2.2
- Set the camera to 192.168.2.3

If your camera is a supported model and you don't see a menu option for network settings, you need to update your camera's firmware, more information and downloads are on Canon's website.

V-600UHD Settings
Now you can create some ROI inputs by sharing the input the camera is connected to.
Go to Menu > Input > Assign/Scaling > Ch.X > Source > Shared Ch.Y
- Note: X is the channel you want to put a copy of your camera, and Y is the source channel where the camera image is.
- For example, if the camera is connected to HDMI input 1 and you want channel 2 to be a copy of it for Auto ROI, you would go to Menu > Input > Assign/Scaling > Ch.2 > Source > Shared Ch.1.
Note: The 8 selectable cross-points on the multi-view are referred to as channels. This is not to be confused with inputs, which are the physical input connectors for video sources.

From there, you can configure each input's Auto ROI settings, so that they will all behave differently on their own, giving you a variety of shots to choose from during production.
First, go to Menu > Input > Assign/Scaling > Ch.X / Scaler > Automatic ROI > Enabled
From there, you can adjust the rules for this channel to follow. These settings are covered in detail with examples in the next section.
There are a lot of different variables, so it helps to build out a configuration with one or two stand-in subjects. You can also point the camera at yourself and get some good results, but ultimately, you will want to configure this for your intended application.
Once you have all your settings configured, store your settings as a Preset Memory:
Most Zoom mode settings can track up to 2 faces in the camera frame. Group and Center Fixed support up to 9 faces.
Auto ROI Modes
Here are detailed breakdowns of each Zoom mode:
Zoom: Off
Stays with the scalers zoom ratio, while moving the center position with face tracking.
The crop is a fixed 1920x1080 window of your 4K source.
Zoom: Close Up, Up Shot, and Bust Shot
Moves the center position with face tracking.
The crop varies by mode:
- Close Up crops to the face area.
- Up Shot crops above the shoulders.
- Bust Shot crops above the bust.
Zoom: Group
Crops as group enters in frame.
Zoom ratio depends on positions of up to 9 detected faces.
- Area and Face Number parameters do not apply to this mode.
Zoom: Center Fixed
The crop area is anchored to the center of the frame.
Zoom ratio depends on the position of the detected face.
- The Area parameter does not apply to this mode.
Auto ROI Adjustments
Here are detailed breakdowns the additional settings:
Area: All
Detects face from entire frame.
- Face Number setting defines who will be detected.
Area: Left or Right
Detects face from left or right half of the frame.
- Face Number setting does not apply with this Area mode.
Area: Upper or Lower
Detects face from top or bottom half of the frame.
- Face Number setting does not apply with this Area mode.
Adjust
Adjusts the zoom ratio between -10% and +10%.
Lost Zoom Out
If the face detection subject leaves the frame, this gives you the option to automatically zoom out to the wide shot.
The options are Slow, Fast, and Off.
Tracking
How fast the shot follows the detected face.
The options are Slow, Fast, and Off.
- The Off setting disables Auto ROI.
Look Ahead
When turned On, this guesses what the tracking movement will be.
Hold Time
Determines how long the tracking holds, between 0.0 and 5.0 seconds.
Offset
This shifts the crop area horizontally or vertically.
