Equipment Needed
- TR-8
- Audio Interface with at least 4 inputs
- 4 Instrument cables (1/4-inch phone type)
Overview
The Tr-8 features both analogue and digital output capabilities. On the analogue side, the TR-8 has MIX OUT, and 2 ASSIGNABLE OUT jacks. This quick article will show you how to configure these as 4 different mono outputs.
Assigning the Drums
To start assigning outputs, turn on the TR-8 while holding PTN SELECT. Notice when you hold variation A or B, the INST select buttons dim. While holding Variation A or B, hitting the chosen INST select buttons will assign those drums to ASSIGNABLE OUT A or B. The remaining unassigned drums will be routed to MIX OUT by default.
Configure the Channels
Ensure the TR-8 has all outputs sequentially connected to the audio interface. Open a DAW, and create 4 mono audio tracks with inputs 1-4. The Assignable outs are ready to go, but now the remaining drums need to be configured. By hard panning Left and Right, we can use the MIX OUT as separate outputs. For example, hard panning the BD left will send the audio to input 1. To pan, press and then hold down the INST select button and turn the TEMPO knob.
