Additional Functions
- Serato DJ Pro Ver.2.1.1 or later is now supported. Synchronized playback with compositions on Serato DJ Pro is possible. (Feb 2019)

- Using this functionality requires a DJ controller compatible with Serato DJ Pro.
- The Roland DJ-202, DJ-505, and DJ-808 cannot be used as the DJ controller.

How to Check the System Program Version
Before proceeding, check the system version of your TR-8.
- Turn off the power.
- While holding down pads [14] and [16], turn on the power.
The [START/STOP] button will blink. - Press the [START/STOP] button.
The current version will appear on the display as three digits.
For example, version 1.61 will be shown as “161”. - After confirming the version, turn off the TR-8 without pressing any other buttons.
Important: If your unit is already running the latest version, you do not need to perform the update.
WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE UPDATE
- TR-8
- AC adaptor (included)
- USB cable
- A computer with a USB connector (Windows, Mac)
CAUTION WHEN PERFORMING THE UPDATE
- Never use this update on any product other than the TR-8. Doing so may damage the system program or data of other products.
- Never turn off the power of your TR-8 while the update is in progress!!
If a power failure or similar issue occurs during the update, the TR-8 may no longer start up in normal operating mode. In such cases, servicing will be required, so please contact your nearest Roland service center.
DOWNLOADING AND UNARCHIVING THE COMPRESSED FILE
- Go to TR-8 UPDATES & DRIVERS and click on TR-8 System Program.
- Read the software license agreement at the bottom of the download page and select the "I agree" check box.
- Click the "Download" button to download the system program (tr8_sys_vXXX*.zip).
*XXX=Version number - Unarchive the downloaded file.
- Windows: Right-click the file and click "Extract All", then click "Extract".
- macOS: Double-click the file to unzip it.
"tr8_sys_vXXX*" folder appears.

Important: Do not rename the extracted file or folder.
UPDATE PROCEDURE
Never use this update on any other product than the TR-8, as it may harm other devices' data or system programs.
- While holding down Pad [1], turn on the power.
The INST select buttons [BD] through [RC] will blink. - Use a USB cable to connect the TR-8 to your computer.
The [BD] button and Pad [1] will blink. - On your computer, open the “TR-8” drive folder.
- Drag and drop the file TR8_UPD.BIN, which is located inside the tr8_sys_vxxx folder created when you extract the downloaded archive, into the root of the “TR-8” drive.
Note: Do not copy the entire tr8_sys_vxxx folder. Copy only the TR8_UPD.BIN file. -
Once the file has been copied, safely remove the “TR-8” drive from your computer:
- Windows: See the article “Safely remove hardware in Windows” on the Microsoft website.
- Mac: Drag the “TR-8” icon to the Trash in the Dock.
- Disconnect the USB cable.
The [SD] button and Pad [2] will blink. - Press Pad [2] to begin the update process.
The [LT] button and Pad [3] will blink, and the SCATTER LEDs will light up in sequence from 1 to 10.
When the INST select buttons [BD] through [RC] and Pads [1] through [16] start blinking, the update is complete. - Turn off the TR-8.
To confirm that the update was successful, check the version number as described in the “How to Check the System Program Version” section.
