Here's how to update the system program firmware for the P-6.
Details about the changes can be found in the “UPDATE HISTORY” section of the system program download page.
Before you start, check the system program version of your P-6.
- Turn off the power.
- While pressing the [PATTERN] button, turn on the power.
The display shows the currently installed version. - Turn off the power.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR P-6
- P-6 unit
- USB cable (included)
- A computer equipped with USB 2.0 or 3.0 port (Windows, Mac)
CAUTION
- Never apply this update data to any product other than the P-6. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
- Never power-off your P-6 while the update is in progress.
- If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the P-6 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
UPDATE PROCEDURE
Follow the steps below:
DOWNLOADING AND UNARCHIVING THE COMPRESSED FILE
- Download the P-6 System Program. https://www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/p-6/updates_drivers/
- Read the software license agreement at the bottom of the download page and select the "I AGREE..." check box.
- Click the "Download File" button to download the system program (p6_sys_vXXX*.zip).
*XXX=Version number - Unarchive the downloaded file.
- Windows: Right-click the file and click "Extract All", then click "Extract".
- macOS: Double-click the file to unzip it.
"p6_sys_vXXX*" folder appears.

Never double-click the files displayed inside the folder after unarchiving or changing the file name.
INSTALL THE UPDATE-FILE
Caution: Never use this update on any other product than the P-6, as it may harm other devices' data or system programs.
- Turn off the P-6 and connect it to a computer using a USB cable.
- While pressing the [SHIFT] button, turn on the power.
-"UPd" appears on the display and the P-6 is recognized as an external drive on your computer. - Open the "p6_sys_vXXX" folder and drag and drop the "P6_UPD.BIN" file to the P-6 drive.
*Do not copy the entire folder. - Confirm that copying is complete, then:
- Windows: See "Safely remove hardware in Windows" (Microsoft site) to remove the P-6 drive, then disconnect the USB cable.
- Mac: Drag the P-6 icon on the desktop into Trash, and disconnect the USB cable.
- Press the [SHIFT] button.
-The update starts. - When "OK" appears on the display, turn the power back on.
*At the startup performed immediately after the update, nothing may appear on display for about 10 seconds. Please wait until it starts up successfully.
