P-6: How to Restore Factory Sample Data and Patterns After a Factory Reset

Performing a factory reset on the Roland P-6 deletes all sample data and patterns stored on the unit. It does not automatically restore the original factory samples and patterns. For how to perform a factory reset itself, see "Restoring the factory settings (Factory Reset)" in the P-6 Owner's Manual.

To restore the original factory sample data and patterns after a reset, download them from the Roland website and import/restore them separately, as described below.

Importing the factory samples

1. Download "P-6 Sample Data / Patterns" from the P-6 UPDATES & DRIVERS page and extract it.
2. Connect the P-6 to your computer using a USB cable that supports data transfer.
   
3. While holding down the [SAMPLING] button, turn on the power.
   
4. Open the “P-6” drive on your computer.
   Note: On a Mac, if the S-1 drive does not appear, check the Finder sidebar and desktop display settings. See "See the devices connected to your Mac" (Apple Support) for how to show external disks.

5. Copy the "BANK_A"–"BANK_D" folders from the downloaded folder into the IMPORT folder on the P-6 drive.

   

6. Once copying is finished, eject the "P-6" drive (Windows: right-click and Eject; macOS: drag to Trash).
7. Press the [KYBD] button to start the import.
   
   The step buttons light up to show the progress.
8. Wait until "donE" appears, then turn off the P-6.
9. While holding down the [SAMPLING] button, turn on the power again.
10. Open the "P-6" drive, then copy the "BANK_E"–"BANK_H" folders into the IMPORT folder.
    
11. Eject the "P-6" drive as in step 6.
12. Press the [KYBD] button to start the import.
13. Wait until "donE" appears, then turn off the P-6.

Note: Importing many samples may take some time. The step buttons light up to show progress. Data that exceeds the size of the sample pads is truncated.

Restoring the factory patterns

1. Connect the P-6 to your computer using a USB cable that supports data transfer.
2. While holding down the [●] (REC) button, turn on the power.
   
3. Open the “P-6” drive on your computer.
4. Copy the pattern files (P6_PTN1-01.PRM–P6_PTN4-16.PRM) from the downloaded folder into the "RESTORE" folder on the "P-6" drive.
   Alternatively, you can replace the existing "RESTORE" folder on the P-6 drive with the downloaded one.
   
5. Eject the "P-6" drive as above.
6. Press the [KYBD] button to start the restore.
   
   This may take about 5 minutes; the step buttons show progress.
7. Wait until "donE" appears, then turn off the P-6.
