On the Roland TR-8S Rhythm Performer, upbeats can be hard to hear when SHUFFLE is set to an extreme value. The timing of each upbeat overlaps the adjacent downbeat.
Turn the [SHUFFLE] knob away from the fully left or fully right position. Shuffle is off at the center (12 o'clock) position.
