The SC-88VL has the same sounds and basic specifications as the SC-88. The main differences are the omitted panel controls, the power supply, and the body size.
Features omitted from the SC-88VL
- Dedicated buttons for sound editing and for User Instrument and User Drum Set editing. On the SC-88VL, User Instruments and User Drum Sets are set from a sequencer or computer using MIDI Exclusive messages. Part parameters such as vibrato, filter, and envelope can still be edited on the unit.
- Preview function (pressing the VOLUME knob to play a note)
- INPUT VOLUME knob for the rear-panel audio input jacks
- Frame Draw function for drawing pictures or characters on the display

- SC-88: AC power cord, 72 mm high, 2.6 kg
- SC-88VL: AC adaptor, 48 mm high, 1.4 kg (half-rack size)
Both models are 218 mm wide and 250 mm deep.
