The SP-404MK2 can play back samples from a computer connected via USB or from an external MIDI device connected via the MIDI IN connector, by transmitting note messages corresponding to each pad. Configure the MIDI mode to suit your needs, then transmit note messages from your external device. See the "MIDI note map" in the SP-404MK2 Reference Manual for details on note numbers.
To select a MIDI mode, follow these steps.
- Hold down the [SHIFT] button and press pad [13].
The "UTILITY MENU" screen appears. - Use the [VALUE] knob to select "SYSTEM", and press the [VALUE] knob.
The system setting screen appears. - Turn the [CTRL 3] knob to select the "MIDI" tab.
- Use the [VALUE] knob to move the cursor to "MIDI Mode", and press the [VALUE] knob.
- Turn the [VALUE] knob to select the value, and press the [VALUE] knob.
- MIDI Mode A: Each bank (A–J) is assigned to a separate MIDI channel (Ch1–Ch10).
- MIDI Mode B: MIDI channel 1 controls banks A–E and MIDI channel 2 controls banks F–J. Note number assignments and MIDI channels can be offset in the utility menu.
- Press the [EXIT] button to return to the "UTILITY MENU" screen.
