SP-404MK2: System Program Version Update

Details about the changes can be found in the “UPDATE HISTORY” section of the System Program download page.

What You Need For Update

• SP-404MK2
• A computer with a SD Card Slot (Windows, Mac)
• SD Card (4 GB - 32 GB) formatted on the SP-404MK2

How to Format SD card 

See the "Formatting an SD card" section in the SP-404MK2 Reference Manual or follow the steps below:

1. Insert the SD card into the SD card slot.
2. Hold down the [SHIFT] button and press the pad [14].
   The IMPORT/EXPORT MENU screen appears.
   
3. Use the [VALUE] knob to select “FORMAT SD-CARD”, and press the [VALUE] knob.
   A confirmation message appears.
   If you decide to cancel, press the [EXIT] button.
4. Use the [VALUE] knob to select “OK”, and press the [VALUE] knob.
   The SD card is now formatted. When formatting is complete, the screen indicates “Operation Completed!”.

How to Update

1. Place the formatted SD card to your computer.
2. Download the zip file from https://www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/sp-404mk2/updates_drivers/.
3. Double click zip file to extract.
4. Open folder sp404mk2_sys_vXXX (XXX = current version number listed)​​.
5. Drag and drop both files "SP404MKII_APP0.bin" and "SP404MKII_APP1.bin" to the root menu of the SP404MK2 drive​.​
6. Safely eject the SP404MK2 drive. 

Insert the SD card in SP404MK2 and proceed with steps below:

1. Power ON with holding the [SHIFT] button.
   Screen will display "UPDATER" mode.​
   ​
2. Press the [ENTER] button.
   Update will begin.
   When "APP0 UPDATER OK" and "APP1 UPDATER OK", the update is successful.​​
3. Turn off the power and remove the SD card.
4. Turn on the power.
5. Hold down the [SHIFT] button and press the pad [13].
   The UTILITY MENU screen appears.
   
6. Use the [VALUE] knob to select “SYSTEM”, and press the [VALUE] knob.
   The system setting screen appears. Each parameter is shown as divided into five tabs (groups).
7. Turn the [CTRL 3] knob to select the VERSION tab.
   
   Check if the latest version is displayed.
8. Press the [EXIT] button to return to the UTILITY MENU screen.
9. Use the [VALUE] knob to select “FACTORY”, and press the [VALUE] knob.
   
   The UTILITY / FACTORY RESET screen appears.
10. Turn the [VALUE] knob to select "SYSTEM DATA", and press the [VALUE] knob to confirm.
    A confirmation message appears, asking if you want to initialize the data.
11. Turn the [VALUE] knob to select “OK”, and press the [VALUE] knob.
    The message “Please Power OFF” appears.
12. Turn the power off, and then on again.
