The SP-404MK2 supports connecting the BOSS FS-1-WL, allowing you to control the looper with a footswitch. This is useful when recording instrument performances.
The following are required:
- SP-404MK2 (system program version 4.00 or later)
- BOSS FS-1-WL (firmware version 1.02 or later)
- FS-1-WL Editor version 1.02 or later (iOS, Android, Windows, macOS)
- MIDI cable with stereo mini type plugs
- (Optional) If a footswitch is connected to the CTL 1,2 jacks of the FS-1-WL, specify a CC# for each footswitch to assign the desired controller. This allows you to use up to two additional controllers alongside the pedal switches on the unit.
- Ensure the SP-404MK2 system program is updated to the latest version.

- Connect the MIDI OUT jack of the FS-1-WL to the MIDI IN jack of the SP-404MK2 with a MIDI cable.
- Turn on both the SP-404MK2 and the FS-1-WL.
- Connect the FS-1-WL to the FS-1-WL Editor via Bluetooth (smartphone) or USB (PC/Mac).
- Launch the editor app and tap or click "MIDI OUT" on the top screen.
Below is a screen shot of the smartphone version of the app. - Specify the CC# (control change number) for PEDAL L, PEDAL C, and PEDAL R. For details on available CC#s, refer to "Control change message numbers and corresponding controllers in Looper mode" in the MIDI Implementation Chart in the SP-404MKII Reference Manual.
